New triumph for the products of the Mavroudis family: Two awards in equal number of entries in the Canada International Olive Oil Competition. A new great distinction on a global level, was marked at Canada by the products of the Mavroudis family, with two awards in equal number of participations in the
international competition Canada International Olive Oil Competition.
These awards are added to a series of previous awards, thus enhancing the
international reputation of the Mavroudis company and clearly reflecting the dynamics
of Corfu’s olive cultivation industry. Thus, Corfu is placed on one of the top places on
the world map of olive cultivation, creating sentiments of honor and pride for the
Mavroudis family. The Canada International Olive Oil Competition (CIOOC) is one of the largest in
the world and it tests the quality of olive oils, their place in the market, as well as the
overall performance of a brand. In fact, they are not just awards, but seals of approval
for an olive oil, enabling a brand stand out.
The statement of one of the judges, a level 2 olive oil sommelier, Emily Lycopolus,
is characteristic. According to them “the CIOOC 2021 competition adds credibility to
olive oil brands, enables producers to distinguish quality products and helps to gain the
trust of consumers.”
This international competition uses strict evaluation standards, based on the tasting
methods as set by the International Olive Oil Council, exclusively using (with) the blind
tasting method. In this strict, competitive and at the same time, innovative environment,
the olive oil from the olive groves of the “Mavroudis Corfu Family Olive Oil” company
managed to be honored and distinguished with two awards:
1.Extra Virgin Olive Oil, a cold-pressed product that is made with great care and
attention to detail, won the gold award (canada page link). It’s flavorful and can be perfectly combined
with fries, raw beef (carpaccio), and stir-fry pork with vegetables. You can see product here.
2.The second distinction with the silver award (canada page link) was won by the Extra Virgin Olive Oil
“Ultra Premium” which is also prepared with the cold pressing method, by olives
from selected olive trees. It is an Extra Virgin Olive Oil of high polyphenol, rich in
aromas, flavors and antioxidants and as its name suggests, it is “liquid gold in a
bottle”. It can be perfectly combined with vanilla ice cream, fruit flavored ice cream,
as well as sorbet. Last but not least, it goes excellently with roast pork.
Each olive oil was awarded for its quality at both the Berlin International
Competition and the New York International Competition. They are produced from the
unique Corfiot olive variety, well-known as “lianelia” or “lianolia” (λιανελιά or
λιανολιά), one of the oldest Greek olive oil varieties, which is produced from olives
gathered from perennial trees. From the processing of their fruit sought after olive oils
are produced, with high content of phenols and beneficial properties!
These exceptional awards are a new high for the Mavroudis family company, as
Corfiot olive oil continues to conquer the international consumer public. At the same
time, it best represents the island of Corfu, as well as the whole of the Ionian Islands
and Greece. For Corfu the olive tree is the living symbol of the island and for centuries
has been an integral part of its social and economic life, history, culture and cuisine.
